2006 United Way Donation Tops Previous Years Essroc's Picton Plant proudly presented a cheque this summer to United Way for $16,255, exceeding previous donations made to date. The funds were pledged by employees through payroll deduction and the company also pledged $5,000. To celebrate, employees and United Way representatives enjoyed a "fish fry BBQ" on the front lawn of the main office at the Picton site.

Picton Fire Department: Benefactors of ESSROC's Surplus Equipment Four surplus Scott air packs and three spare oxygen tanks were donated this summer of 2006 to the local fire department. Jim Dunlop, Safety Manager, and Dan Wight, Administrative Manager, delivered the equipment to the firefighters. As Jim stated, "the units show very little wear & tear as they were used more for safety training rather than any actual rescue missions". The fire department will carry some units on their trucks and use the others as training units. As stated by Scott Manlow, Fire Chief, "this donation saved the local municipality at least $10,000 to purchase similar equipment".

Local Scholarships for 2006 The end of the school season saw Essroc Picton's support in recognizing the academic excellence of graduating students at the local secondary school. This school has been chosen to receive this annual recognition by Essroc for over 30 years. The graduates of 2006 have distinguished themselves academically and Essroc is pleased to reward their achievements - we look at it as an investment in their future. There are eight Essroc monetary awards presented at the annual graduation ceremonies. The largest is the Essroc Award for Engineering, presented for the highest achievement by a student proceeding to study engineering. The other seven awards are for highest standing in various Mathematics and Sciences.
